Ever Been to a Morton's Steakhouse

Last week, I was at the annual mathematics conference known as MathFest.  This year, the conference was held in Portland, OR.  A group of nine of us went out to dinner together (organized by me) on Thursday night.  On Thursday morning, I went to the staff of the Marriott Waterfront Hotel where I was staying and asked for restaurant suggestions.  Of course, I had to mention that I did NOT want anything exotic - in fact, Italian food or steaks would be my choices.  The young lady at the counter suggested Morton's Steakhouse.  It was only two blocks from the hotel - very nice - and she would be happy to make reservations for us.  (Excellent service!)  I said, "Sure!"

That night we went, and it was EXCELLENT!  OK, a bit pricy, but man was it good!  And the portions were huge.  Here's a link to a picture of me with a HUGE potato which could be made in six different ways for our meal - baked potato, garlic mashed potato, steak fries, etc.  (I stopped listening after our server, Amanda, said "steak fries"!)  Needless to say, I was lauded for my choice of restaurant by all my colleagues!

So here are two questions for you:

1)  Ever been to a Morton's Steakhouse?  If so, where?  (It's a semi-national chain.)

2)  What is your favorite restaurant memory?

My favorite restaurant memory? I don't know. But I do know exactly who my favorite dinner companion is--you!

(Okay, that mini is creepy.)

I'm not going to touch the "creepy mini" comment, but I will answer your questions.

1.  I have never been to Morton, but have talked about going several times.  There is one located downtown near the River Walk, however it isn't really a place to take kids nor is steak worth hiring a babysitter for.  But I'm certainly glad you enjoyed it.

2.  My favorite resurante experince is any trip to The Tavern in State College.  It is my all time favorite place to eat anywhere.  The sides, the decor, the blacken chicken...need I go on!

@TeacherPerson - You are extremely kind, and a great dinner companion yourself.  Maybe next time I am at Morton's, you'll be with me!!!  (And, yes, that mini is a bit odd......  but thanks for the thought.)

@rjdohner - As a steak lover, I might be willing to hire a sitter for Morton's - it was THAT good (at least in Portland).  Of course, where you are, there are lots of different steak places around.  So maybe Morton's is not worth worrying about for you.  And my Teacherperson would agree with your view of The Tavern.  I think it's great as well, but somehow you and Teacherperson view it MUCH better than I do.

I was being cheap with the price of the mini (as if it mattered!). The Tavern's my favorite, too, Jessica. I've not been there in a long while.

@TeacherPerson - The issue in your last sentence above could be changed!  :)  Just let me know.

I have never been to a Morton Steakhouse.  I am not a big fan of steak.  I am not a big fan of fried chicken on the bone neither, but recently in New Orleans my husband and I had dinner at Willie Mae's Scotch House.  Whoa!  Worth the trip!
